How we review game guides

1. Identify the common version

We begin with the widely recognized rules or current standard mode. If a game has meaningful regional, edition, or platform differences, we call that out instead of blending incompatible versions together.

2. Reconstruct the first play

We check whether a reader can move from an unopened game to a legal first turn: components, setup, who begins, available actions, turn order, scoring, and the end condition must be understandable in that sequence.

3. Check confusing moments

We look for ties, illegal moves, special cards, missed turns, boundaries, eliminations, and other moments likely to cause a disagreement. Frequently asked questions and common mistakes are written around those situations.

4. Separate rules from advice

Required rules, optional variations, and strategic suggestions are labeled separately. Strategy is framed for beginners and does not claim to guarantee a win.

5. Revisit when needed

We update material when a publisher changes rules, a video game receives a substantial update, or a reader identifies an error we can verify. Each guide displays the date of its latest editorial review.
